What is #TCMA2016 with Chris Marr
I’m here in Fife today with Chris Marr, the founder and director of the Content Marketing Academy and organiser of the Content Marketing Academy conference 2016. How are you, Chris?
I’m good, thanks. Thanks for having me on the show.
It’s a pleasure. Tell us about the conference, really excited about it.
Thanks very much for getting involved with what we’re doing, I really appreciate all your support as well, partnering up with us, and it’s just great to have some good friends around to support what we’re doing. We certainly can’t do it ourselves, it’s a big deal for us.
Tell us where it is and when it is.
The conference is in the centre of Edinburgh at the Hub, which is one of the most fantastic venues.
It looks amazing.
Yeah, it does. We’re not going to have to do too much to make this an amazing event. We’ve got all the right things in the right place, Edinburgh, capital city of Scotland, we’ve got a great venue, we’re attracting international speakers, we’re attracting an international audience, which is really cool, so there’s something interesting happening here. I guess the main thing is that there’s going to be 200 delegates there, we’ve got 14 speakers, it’s over two days on the 2nd and 3rd June, and I think it’s just going to be an amazing opportunity for anyone that’s in business today to really get to the cutting edge of what marketing is all about in 2016.
And this is the thing, it’s for anyone that’s in business. The target customer, the person that should come to this conference, who are they, what do they look like?
The key thing to understand about the Content Marketing Academy is that it’s a marketing conference for business people. It’s not a marketing conference for marketers, although we do attract marketing agencies too because of the type of speakers that we have, and they’ll get value from it as well, but this isn’t a techie geeky conference. You’re not going to learn about the technical stuff, this is about how do you grow your business in 2016 using the right principles, the correct way. You’re going to learn from people like Mark Schaefer, Ann Handley, Amy Schmittauer and other people that have executed on content marketing principles and built their business because of it.
That’s really important to understand that, you should be able to sit there as a guest, listening to the speakers and learning from them and relating to them as well. These aren’t consultants, they’re actual practitioners of content and content marketing. I think that is so significant when it comes to being at a conference, that you can not only relate to them, they get you too, they understand your challenges, because they’re having them themselves. They’ve been there and they’ve done that, they’re just maybe a few years ahead of us, so it’s really important. It’s a marketing conference for business people, first and foremost. I’ve hand curated all the speakers, and the main thing for me is that they’ve built their business on the principles of content, really important.
You’ve been to conferences before, I’ve been to conferences before, sometimes you walk away and you feel motivated and excited, then you get back to the office and you’re like…what now? I mentioned this before in a previous video that we did, this is massively about building a community. We want people to not leave the conference just feeling motivated and excited about it, but actually feel like they’ve got practical steps to take to actually make it happen. It’s a balance between keynote type presentations and workshop type stuff as well, like tactical. You want to get your hands dirty as well, and you want to learn from these guys that are actually doing it every single day.
It’s going to be an awesome couple of days. How do people find out about it, if they don’t already know?
Go to the Content Marketing Academy, just type that into Google, or the Content Marketing Academy 2016, and you’ll find out everything to do with the conference, the dates, where it is, who the speakers are. There’s tons of information there.
There’s a ton of stuff in there, isn’t there?
A ton of stuff there, you can find out about it. If you’re in Scotland and you’re running a business, you need to be there. Never mind the rest of the UK, we’re attracting an audience across Europe.
Folks out there, if you’re watching this video and you want to come to Scotland in June, then come. If you’re in London, if you’re in Paris, you’re in Rome, who knows, you might even be in New York, come on over. It’s always sunny in Edinburgh in the summer.
We hope so, anyway, in June. So I guess the key thing is that that’s the reason we are in the capital. We’re attracting people who are coming here. It’s on a Thursday and a Friday, there’s no reason why you can’t come here for the weekend and spend a bit of time in Edinburgh. It’s one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and our international speakers and guests are coming here for the weekend, they’re going to spend a bit of time here and it makes a lot of sense to do that.
